• Including text on a fax cover sheet.

From micky@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 24 21:29:53 2024
The IRS has written me asking for docuuments (supporting what taxes I
    said were withheld).

They suggest faxing the 1099's back, with a cover sheet with name, SSN,
batch and control numberrs, etc. If I didn't have an overly-developed compulsion not to waste paper, one sheet of mine and one sheet if they
print theirs, I would write a 1 line letter (plus salutation and
signature) to them on a separate piece of paper, but more than half of
the cover page they requewst will be blank.

If I put my 3 ines total in the bottom half of the cover sheet, will it
likely be seen? Or not noticed?

Does it not matter anyhow because they couldn't care less one way or the
other about my polite pleasantry, "I'm sorry I didn't include the
    1099's. I think this is what you've requested." ?

I think you can tell, but just to be sure:
    I am not a lawyer.

If it were me, I would send them a fax with three sheets - the fax cover
sheet with the phone number, recipient, etc., the cover letter they asked
for with the info they asked for, and then the 1099 itself. I would do this using online fax software (like fax.plus), so I wouldn't actually have to
print any sheets out or waste any paper - and then let them do with it what they want.
