Environmental group Greenpeace has been ordered to pay over $660 million
by a North Dakota jury following protests against the Dakota Access
Pipeline. Energy Transfer, along with its subsidiary Dakota Access,
accused Greenpeace entities of defamation, trespassing, nuisance, and
civil conspiracy. Greenpeace plans to appeal the decision, and senior
legal adviser Deepa Padmanabha emphasized that the groups work will
    continue regardless of the ruling.

Greenpeace stated, Although a jury of nine people in North Dakota has
decided that Greenpeace entities are liable for over $660 million in
    damages, this isnt over.

Greenpeace has called the lawsuit meritless, warning that the hefty
damages could threaten its financial stability. Greenpeace USA was found
liable for all charges, while the other entities have been liable for
    some.

Greenpeace said, Were going to appeal. And were prepared to fight this
all the way to victory. We absolutely believe in our legal defense. We
believe the law is fully on our side. We believe in what we did at
Standing Rock, and that ultimately we will prevail against this meritless lawsuit.

Greenpeace added, Weve fought Energy Transfers lawsuits for more than
seven years. Every step of the way, weve emphasized that these types of lawsuits intended to silence and shut down critics are part of a
growing national attack on our First Amendment rights.

Energy Transfer referred to the verdict as a victory for Americans who understand the distinction between lawful protest and illegal actions. The company expressed satisfaction in the accountability imposed on
    Greenpeace.

Greenpeace interim executive director Sushma Raman stated that the case represents a broader effort by corporations to stifle dissent. The legal
battle originates from protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline from
    2016 to 2017.

Raman said, This case should alarm everyone, no matter their political inclinations, adding, Its part of a renewed push by corporations to weaponize our courts to silence dissent. We should all be concerned about
the future of the First Amendment, and lawsuits like this aimed at
destroying our rights to peaceful protest and free speech.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe previously raised concerns about potential
water contamination and land harm. Thousands of protesters camped near the Standing Rock Reservation, where the pipeline crosses the Missouri River.

Energy Transfer wrote, While we are pleased that Greenpeace has been held accountable for their actions against us, this win is really for the
people of Mandan and throughout North Dakota who had to live through the
daily harassment and disruptions caused by the protesters who were funded
    and trained by Greenpeace.

Green Peace will just file for bankruptcy. This corp. won't collect a
dime. This is a Pyrrhic victory for them.

No, means their insurance has to pay off, and any others with similar activities will find it much much harder to obtain asserts, insurance, or financial support as they are now going to be seen as high risk. Which means much less of any budget can actually fund such activities even assuming they can get anything like the revenue Green Peace had.

Further, the leadership could now be subject to personal suit for any activities that led to the downfall of green peace.

I'm antagonistic at this point. It's one thing to be passionate
but, ignorant of their own issue AND passionate about it? Sheesh!

Ask them simple questions like "When did it start?" and "How much

    Who told you that?

Lol! How do you not know?

It's not only true but, like all REAL science, it's always true and
not just true sometimes. So when large volcanoes erupt spewing a
great deal of sulfur and ash, we see cooling. When Toba exploded
about 74,000 years ago it tool the northern hemisphere roughly a
thousand years to fully recover, and in the mean time it saw
    temperatures dip 20F below normal.

What does that have to do with fossil fuels?

Of course humans can't match the emissions of a super volcano.. we'd
be hard pressed to meet the emissions of a large or even medium
    volcano...

What does that have to do with fossil fuels?

Sulfur is the immediate killer. Lots of that in our fossil fuels,
this CLIMATE COOLING sulfur, especially coal. We've made a great
many efforts to lower sulfur emissions, here in the west (and only
the west), which you can "Study" by visiting the closest gas
station and reading the diesel pump.

    "Climate cooling sulfur"?

    What?

"The gas, sulfur hexafluoride, is "the most
potent greenhouse gas known to date," according
to the Environmental Protection Agency. It's
22,800 times more effective at trapping heat
than carbon dioxide, and lasts in the atmosphere
