LAS VEGAS (KSNV) � A Clark County District Court judge has been removed
from all of her criminal cases after a public defender accused her of suggesting the lawyer had a sexual relationship with a client.

An order filed Thursday states that all of the criminal cases in front of
Judge Erika Ballou will be reassigned to another department.

Ballou will receive several additional civil cases, Chief Judge Jerry
Wiese wrote.

No reason for the change in administrative business was included in the
order.

Ballou has faced several controversies during her term on the bench. Most recently, Anna Stone, a deputy public defender, filed an affidavit last
week asking for Ballou to be disqualified from all of Stone's cases
because of "a deep-seated antagonism toward me that makes fair judgment impossible."

The judge "accused me of having a sexual relationship with a client, with
zero basis in truth, and she further posited that my advocacy for my
client was related to that sexual relationship," Stone's affidavit states.

News 3 has reached out to Ballou's attorney for comment.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline also censured Ballou last
year over "inappropriate" social media posts and comments during one
person's sentencing.

She told a defendant at a sentencing hearing in 2021, "You're a Black man
in America, you know you don't want to be around where cops are."

She also wrote a social media post suggesting her custody cases for the
next day be vacated because she was at a concert, and shared a photo of
herself in a hot tub with two public defenders.
