'This week, the secretary of the United States Navy announced that it
met its recruiting goal for the fiscal year 2025.

This came after reports surfaced throughout former President Joe Biden’s tenure that recruiting numbers were dropping.

"I am proud to announce we've met our Fiscal Year 2025 recruiting goal,
three months early. 40,600 future Sailors have signed up to serve in our
U.S. Navy," Secretary John Phelan said in a video announcement this
    week.

“This is a critical time in history. The world is more complex and more contested than it has been in decades. Our ability to respond starts
with our greatest asset – our people. This milestone reflects more than numbers. It reflects the drive of our recruiters, innovation of our
team, and the courage of thousands of Americans who stepped forward to serve,” he added.

“This recruiting milestone is only the beginning, because the challenges ahead are growing. We’re in a new era of warfare, where the battlefield extends from sea bed to space,” he continued. “To our newest sailors: welcome to the fleet. Thank you. Your courage makes it all possible.”

In fiscal year 2023, the Navy missed its active-duty recruiting goal by
several thousand recruits. The goal was 37,700. The Navy only recruited
    30,236.

Last year, a report from Navy Times described this as a “crisis.” This
did not just impact the Navy. Every branch except the Marines saw
    recruiting numbers drop.

“I think we can absorb one year of missing mission,” Vice Adm. Brendan McLane, commander of Naval Surface Forces, said at the Surface Navy Association’s annual conference last year. “Two years — that’s going to be a problem, that’s going to have an effect

    Good one!
There are other economic indicators heading in the right direction as well.
And unlike the previous administration where the new jobs created consisted in large part
of government jobs, the current numbers are private sector jobs in large part. Either way, numbers can be spun and they are.

The important part is that our military is returning to it's no nonsense, highly qualified
agency that it has been in the past instead of a complete and utter woke embarrassment.

Good thing Trump took over with his
track record of cutting federal jobs.

    Opps.

"The Trump administration came into office
with the expressed intention of shrinking
the size of the federal government and its
    workforce.

However, our latest analysis shows that the
    number of full-time, civilian federal
    employees increased throughout the former
presidents term, and despite some exceptions,
    several trends in demographics, seniority,
career focus, and agency size also held steady
    during this time.

Overall, the federal workforce increased by
an average of 0.9% per year between December
2016, just before the start of the Trump
administration, and December 2020, just before
the president left office. This increase
compares with a 0.3% average increase during
the second term of the Obama administration."

The TL;DR is that the bill hits those who are the most vulnerable, and

I'm just not seeing it. According to your CBO source--

"Resources for households in the lowest decile of the income distribution would decrease by about $1,600 per year (in 2025 dollars) compared with their projected income in CBO's baseline projections (see Figure 1). That amounts
to 3.9 percent of their income (see Figure 2). Those projected decreases are mainly attributable to reductions in in-kind transfers, such as Medicaid and SNAP."

Nothing in there about a "tax increase." One of the major arguments made for passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill is that it would lock in the tax decreases
made in 2017 and were set to end on December 31st.

Only if you define "the rich" as everybody *not* in the lowest decile.

The financial impact expressed by a percentage is highest in the lowest
income category ... but the break point between loss/gain is at a much
higher level than just the bottom 10% decile. As can be seen in the CBO report, the bottom three deciles (so incomes from 1% to 30%) are all net
    effect worse off.

The net effect up to 50th percentile (median) is technically positive,
but at just $800 per year ($16/week) isn't particularly significant,
plus it pragmatically is likely to be fully absorbed by the secondary compounding effect of increases in employer healthcare due to less
expense distribution of providers due to reductions in Medicaid.

An upper middle class household ($190K/yr) is the upper limit for 80% of taxpayers and their break is 1.5%, which is ~$2800/yr but this is also
before any confounding cost factors such as the above. With Medicaid's
big cuts delayed until after the 2026 Midterm elections, it has years of
lag before this chicken comes home to roost.

    Meantime, Top 5%'s is +3% (+$15K) & up; Top 1% is +3.8% (+$25K) & up.

    Addendum ...

here's another useful link & discussions, which have a point worth
    mentioning:

    <https://www.reddit.com/r/AskEconomics/comments/1lq0f3i/bbb_tax_cuts_can_someone_explain_to_me_how_these/>

    Which is this point:

"However, part of how President Trump claims he will pay for this bill
are with the tariffs. When you add in the tariffs to the bill, the Yale
Budget Lab projects the bottom 10% will lose around 2500 the median
household aroun 1800 and the top 10% will now gain about 8,000. With the tariffs, only the top 20% of households will see a net increase in incomes."

    Which also cites: <https://budgetlab.yale.edu/research/combined-distributional-effects-one-big-beautiful-bill-act-and-tariffs>

Which has a useful graph (Figure 2). While tariffs remain a very much
moving target ("90 deals in 90 days" fail), what it reveals is that once tariffs are included *EVERY* income category below the top 20% are
definitely worse off...and even the 2nd from the top decile (80th to
90th income bracket), the meatball average is right about on the zero
line, so that ends up a net wash for them.

Government mandated income loss is the same as a government mandated
tax increase when it comes to the net effect on your wallet.

Sure, the poor are getting $150 a year tax cut, but they're losing (as
you post above) $1600 in benefits for a net loss of $1450. How is
    that better for them?

Its because money which gets taken out of the left pocket isn't counted

It's better for them because it will require 80 work hours/month for able-bodied

'US Military Branch Already Hit Its 2025 Recruiting Goal'

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/madelineleesman/2025/06/19/this-us-military-branch-finally-hit-its-recruiting-goal-n2659088

'This week, the secretary of the United States Navy announced that it >>>>>>>>> met its recruiting goal for the fiscal year 2025.

This came after reports surfaced throughout former President Joe >>>>>>>>> Biden's tenure that recruiting numbers were dropping.

"I am proud to announce we've met our Fiscal Year 2025 recruiting >>>>>>>>> goal, three months early. 40,600 future Sailors have signed up to >>>>>>>>> serve in our U.S. Navy," Secretary John Phelan said in a video >>>>>>>>> announcement this week.

Enlistments always go up when the
economy is about to tank, the best example
    being the Bush Recession.

"Blue-Collar Wages Under Trump Post Largest Increase in Almost 60 Years

"In the first five months of President Donald Trump's second term, >>>>>>> blue-collar hourly workers have experienced a nearly 2 percent increase >>>>>>> in real wage growth-the most significant growth under any administration
    since President Richard Nixon...."

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/business/blue-collar-wages-under-trump-post-largest-increase-in-almost-60-years-5874522

    +2%, eh?

So that's why Trump's Big Beautiful Bill is hitting them with a +12% tax >>>>>> increase?

    Cite?

Sorry, missed seeing this post last week.
In any event, there's been last minute changes and the like, so the
latest CBO says its now "only" -4% ... but that's still twice what wage >>>> growth they've had.

    https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2025-06/61387-Distributional-Effects.pdf

The TL;DR is that the bill hits those who are the most vulnerable, and >>>> after it steals from the poor,...

I'm just not seeing it. According to your CBO source--

"Resources for households in the lowest decile of the income distribution >>> would decrease by about $1,600 per year (in 2025 dollars) compared with their
projected income in CBO's baseline projections (see Figure 1). That amounts >>> to 3.9 percent of their income (see Figure 2). Those projected decreases are
mainly attributable to reductions in in-kind transfers, such as Medicaid and
    SNAP."

Nothing in there about a "tax increase." One of the major arguments made for
passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill is that it would lock in the tax
decreases made in 2017 and were set to end on December 31st.

That's attempting to differentiate on categorizations of how one's
paycheck gets garnished by the government....

    Restoring what was snipped:

"Same thing is happening with attempts to claim that import tariffs
    aren't "taxes" either."

    The OBBB doesn't garnish paychecks,

Didn't say that it does. But those tariffs are still coming out of your paycheck: its just being hidden in higher product prices instead of
    your 1040 form.

...it maintains the 2017 tax rates already in existence.

With the breaks for regular folks being temporary (all gone by 2029),
whereas the rate cuts or the top 2% are permanent. Here's a list:

    * "No-tax-on-tips": expires end of 2028.

    * Overtime: expires at the end of 2028.

    * Additional seniors deduction: expires in 2029.

    * SALT cap expansion: expires at the end of 2029.

    * Car loan interest: expires in 2028.

    * Clean energy/EVs: eliminated on September 30th of this year.

    * Tax credits for energy-improvements: December 31st of this year
    * Investments in clean energy sources: expires in 2026.

So not only will your taxes climb back up, the curtailment of social
safety net programs - mostly Medicaid (1 Jan 2027; after midterms), will
result in a hidden "tax" that's not on your 1040 but still hitting your checkbook ... even when you're not a recipient, because MATH:

That's because when hospitals have expenses from an indigent patient,
that financial loss get amortized across those of us who they *do* make
a nominal profit on. When Medicaid payments decline, their loss rate increases. That means that their rates for services for *EVERYONE* go
up to cover the higher losses. And that inevitably means larger
increases to figure healthcare insurance premiums for everyone.

That's the crux of the "left pocket vs right pocket" comment: those
higher costs aren't pedantically a "tax", but you nevertheless still
ended up with less money retained overall.
