At one point in my life I worked as an airline mechanic for a major
airline and specializing in navigation and communications equipment.
This was back in the 1970's.
So at some point the team leader informed us that they hired a new
mechanic who came with high level qualifications and training.
    His name was Rufus Johnson.
So anyway, he seemed like a nice guy, quiet and did the low level tasks assigned to any new worker, like bundling cables, labeling things,
    repairing seat electronics.

So after a few months, we were short of staff and Rufus got assigned to
a plane that had an issue blowing some fuse.
He was on that problem for hours with no solution so he came to the more experienced crew for help. Granted this was a difficult problem to
    solve.

So the crew offered advice but Rufus just blurted out loudly;; "I'm
gonna find that fucking short by applying 230V and look for the smoke"
    This was a 28v circuit.
I might be off on the numbers but bottom line apply a far greater
voltage to a circuit it was not designed for and look for smoke.

Once we heard this, the entire crew went out to lunch at the same time.
    This was rare.
When we returned the plane was surrounded by management types because
they were trying to figure out how they were going to repair all of the
    damage Rufus caused.

Net, net, Rufus was promoted to management.
The shit really does rise to the top.
