BOSTON, Mass. (TND) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
officials on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 26-year-old migrant
accused of raping a 15-year-old in Massachusetts, just weeks after he
was released by local authorities.
Border Patrol admitted Cory Alvarez to the U.S. in June 2023. The
migrant allegedly violated the terms of his lawful admittance, ICE
said.
Alvarez was indicted by a grand jury in May after being charged with
aggravated rape of a child in a Massachusetts shelter. He posted $500
in bail funds and was released despite a detainer request from ICE
asking law enforcement to hold the suspect.
Prosecutors originally asked for Alvarez's bail to be set at $25,000,
but the Plymouth County Superior Court decided against it, according to
the Boston Globe. Officers say they apprehended the Haitian national
near his residence in Brockton, Massachusetts Tuesday.
Cory Bernard Alvarez has been charged with victimizing a minor in a Massachusetts migrant shelter, Enforcement and Removal Operations
Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said. He will have his day in
court and ERO Boston will continue to cooperate with the criminal court
system in Massachusetts, but we cannot allow any significant noncitizen
threat to the children of our communities to potentially reoffend. ERO
Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and
removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.
ICE sources previouslytold the New York Post Alvarezs June release was
an example of standard Democratic bulls--- which make their jobs impossible.
The dumba-- judges are the ones causing a lot of these issues by
ignoring the root of the problem, one source reportedly said.
California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and other blue states
all do this bulls---. If we run records checks on people out of those
states, they have policies that are in place to prevent sharing of any information.
Immigration continues to be a hot-button topic with the approach of the November election. A California sheriff who was featured in a new
campaign advertisement for Vice President Kamala Harris denied his
support for the candidate Monday, claiming she has done little to help
law enforcement in the past.
Kamalas sad attempt to paint herself as tough on the border by
implying my support and the support of neighboring law enforcement
officers is pathetic, Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said.
