ST. LOUIS � A man died after he was struck by a train in St. Louis' Patch neighborhood Saturday evening, a statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said Sunday afternoon.
Officers were sent to the scene, near Michigan Avenue and Tesson Street,
around 7:30 p.m.
"When they arrived, they observed an adult male laying underneath the
stopped train," the Sunday statement said. "He died at the scene."
The train's engineer told police he didn't realize what he saw on the
tracks ahead was a person until it was too late.
"The engineer activated the emergency stop brake; however, the train did
not stop in time and struck the man," the SLMPD statement said. "The
Medical Examiner�s Office responded and took possession of the body."
The engineer told police he initially thought that he saw refuse and
clothes.
