The majority of major brands have now cheapened a loaf of bread to the
point that each size is much smaller in size and thickness. It's thin
as hell, and mostly blown up with air. Having a jelly sandwich is like
there's no bread, but only jelly filling your mouth.

Those slices sit so low in our toaster we have to use a knife to stick
in one in order pull it up and out of the toaster.

How about those hot dogs today with their packages dripping with water
when opened? Have you noticed how much thinner is the width and height
of each one, even though they have been bloated with water?

AND the one-pound jars of natural peanut butter are now 15 ounces, and
the last ones I bought from Kroger have a lot more peanut oil on top and
are runnier even when most of it is poured off. It also used to have a
lot more peanut chunks. I complained and was given a $6 gift
certificate and a promise that the lot numbers etc. would be sent to the >appropriate quality organization. I'm not holding my breath.

They have cheapened all products to keep their own business expenses
    down.

It has to be collusion between all breadmakers for so many brands doing
the same. They protect themselves with collusion by denying us the
choice of buying a different brand. I'm pretty sure such an act is
    illegal.

For years I bought a brand of frozen tamale. One day, a number of
months back, I found they had loaded the dang things with water. The
water just squished out of the wrapper during micowaving, and especially
when I removed the tamale from it's wrapper. It was no longer a solid
tamale. The corn bread covering had just parted and let the insides
    break loose onto the plate.

I phoned them. They made excuses. It was really the fault of the store
from which I had bought them. They didn't have an answer for when I
told them i had purchased a bag from two different stores.

They, as with you, offered me a freebie coupon. I told them I didn't
need it because I'd never be buying their product again. They couldn't
have cared less. Unless a whole bunch more of their customers call in
with the same complaint, nothing will change.

So far, Skippy peanut butter is still pretty much the same in taste and texture. Too bad their isn't any real bread to spread it on.

I love Skippy super chunk peanut butter, but it's not REAL peanut butter
-- more like some sort of sweet roll filling. I would certainly never
    feed it to a dog.

I would never feed my mutts people food except for very few items.

I gathered that Skippy isn't the same as it was in the old days. But it
has managed to stay enjoyable and edible.

I remember that it was somewhere around the very late 50's or early 60's
when Twinkies lost their banana cream filling and went with greasy
garbage inside. I used to buy one daily. I couldn't believe what they
had done. I stopped eating those grease filled whatevers.

It was right about those same early years that Good & Plenty turned from
a delicious tasting licorice inside them to a black plastic substance
which was like chewing - well, it was like chewing plastic. Another
    favorite gone.

I used to buy an ice cream bar from the machines in the movie theater
lobby when I went to the movies. It might have been either in my late
teens or early twenties when I started to get sick after eating one. I
then found out that they no longer were ice cream bars but some horrible imitation of such. To this day, and I'm 90 now, I cannot eat that
imitation ice cream without getting sick.

It was also around the time of my early twenties that the Clark Bar
people took the caramelized center out of my favorite candy bar.

I'm not going to begin to talk about what they did to meat, coffee and
quite a few other foods that used to be part of my life. They ruined so
much to gain more $$$. And, as I said before, these companies have
colluded among themselves in order to destroy competition.
