Its been a long time posting here. I remember how much fun it was in
here using Win 3.1. Miss those days. Windows 3.1 was the big deal
then.
I recently resurrected an old Vista-era machine, scrubbed it and
installed MS-DOS 7.1. (I tried PTS-DOS but it had issues.) I'm thinking >>about putting Win3x on it just for giggles; just have to find the
patch(es) to allow it. I'm also thinking about alternate GUIs, too. GEM, >>Desqview/X, etc. For now, it's all Norton Commander and the command

Awesome ! You know if you use a large amount of ram you will have to
use the 3start patch.
That's one of the patches I have in mind; the machine has 4GB RAM. DOS
seems to work ok without any patches, but I haven't tried anything memory-intensive.
Have you tried Norton Desktop for Dos? That with Norton commander gives
you a lot of control in Dos.
Don't think I ever have. Not sure whether or not I have it in storage.
I'm still using MS-DOS 6.22 only because its the native enviroment for Windows 3.1 and WFW.
I went with 7.1 because I was trying to install Win98. The 4GB patch didn't work for me, so...
There are still sites that are alive with all dos and win 3.1. Still
alive thankfully !
Yep, I have several of them bookmarked.
