At first sight, I would also think that it's a problem caused by using
an old RM version on an old Windows, but when I test this combination here, running RM 7 Essentials on Windows XP on a virtual machine, inside Linux, after importing a 300,000 person GEDCOM, which creates a RMGC
file of 222.5 MB, I see no error or truncation, so it looks like there
is some issue with your desktop that I can't simulate here.
Have you tried the RootsMagic community forum?

I'm on that forum myself too, and it works quite well.
