    I think some UNIX variant is your logical next step. That will also
    allow you to play in more USENET groups. "win win" or so they say.

    I stil use XP. I use the Sygate firewall along with the XP firewall.

    I use it to keep programs from sending out my info.

    Zone Alarm 6,7,8 to 9.2.
    Versions after that are spam ware, spy ware, and annoyance ware.
    Versions 8 & 9 have spam that will install if you let it,
    but that can be stopped during install.

    What now ?

    The Windows built in firewall service "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" [SharedAccess] was deleted from the system.

    This is probably due to a third party firewall software, whether it's
    currently installed, or is already uninstalled but its installer doesn't restore the service.

    It could also due to debloater tool which remove unneeded system components.

    Or it could also be due to sabotage by a malware.
