• [gentoo-user] gentoo on raspberry/pihole

From yahoo@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 8 19:10:02 2025
    Hello,

I understand somebody else on this list is using pihole on raspberry,
not sure if gentoo or other. I use an ebuild from the tatsh-overlay but
it is stuck at version 5.x, while upstream is at 6.x with interesting
    features like embedded web server.

How are others updating pihole in gentoo?

    thanks,

    raffaele

I'm one who runs PiHole on a RP-5 mainly for power consumption
reasons due to it running 24/7.

Gentoo would be a great choice for a Pi if you want to handle
building it remotely to do Gentoo updates. In my case I don't have
the time to deal with that so I just used the Raspberry Pi version
of Linux. It's literally about 30 minutes from pulling the Pi out of
box until PiHole is running. System updates are super easy.

I already use Gentoo on RPi4 and cross-compile most of @world on a
Ryzen. I was hoping there was some hidden ebuild for pihole 6.x.

    So I'm stuck with 5.x.
Or, I could to try to update the ebuild, but I already saw it is not
easy at all since dependencies changed a lot from 5.x to 6.x. Not good
    for a first-timer. Oh, well.

    thanks,

I own a cubieboard2, but I stopped using gentoo on it mostly due to
lack of time. I'm using pihole 6.x on it with archlinux.
I built the 3 packages myself, approximatively half an hour to build.

    1. https://archlinuxarm.org/
    2. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pi-hole-core
    3. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pi-hole-ftl
