• Location of Bug?

From Jamie Charbonneau@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jan 21 00:20:01 2025
    Hi,

I'd like to report a bug, but I'm not sure what package the bug is in. The issue I am having is that when I run sound through my external soundcard (steinberg/yamaha), the sound is out of synch with video. If I run the sound straight to a tv, bypassing
the soundcard, the issue is resolved.

    Thanks for any help!

    Cheers,
    Jamie

I had a similar issue when playing videos through VLC. The sound was choppy/laggy.

As workaround I fixed it, with switching the audio output module in VLC
to ALSA and selected my external device (Focusrite Scarlett 8i6) manually.

It's an Pulsaudio issue. IMHO, the combination from professional sound
cards (external or internal) with Pulsaudio is currently very bad.

In the past installations (other GNU/Linux distributions) my first
step with the new system was always to disable Pulsaudio, in addition
you don't have troubles (lags an others) with JACK if you use DAW
    software.

    Kind regards,

    Johannes

    Jamie,

I have a similar issue with my car's bluetooth, but not with any other bluetooth device. In my case, the issue is with my car's bluetooth,
    not Linux.

Can you provide more detail about your external sound card? Maybe
someone else can help, but I do not have any experience with external
sound cards or what linux drivers, if any, are being used. Have you
install any particular firmware drivers for this hardware?

Are you using Debian 12?  What brand/model computer are you using?

    George.
