• keepassxc and firefox

From Hans@21:1/5 to All on Sun Oct 20 19:20:02 2024
    Dear list,

I have a little question to keepassxc with firefox, for I believe, I missed something.

    Actual state (Debian/stable):

    - Installed keepassxc from Debian repo.
    - Installed webext-keepassxc-browser from Debian repo.
    - Created a new database in keepassxc.
    - Imported passwords from CSV file (made from firefox) into database of keepassxc
    - keepassxc is started and database is opened
    - firefox is running
    - The keepassxc-icon in firefox is green.

    So far, so well.

But when I click on the icon of keepassxc in firefox, I get the message:

Error: The default password store is not accessible.

    ----------

Now I am somehow lost. Does it mean, it can not access the passworrd store of firefox or does it mean, it can not access the database of keepassxc?

What did I wrong, if any?

I also read, that firefox and keepassxc from flatpak do not work and a script is needed. However, we do not have flatpak in debian (normallywise) but does
an installation from the repo need this script, too???

Maybe everything is already ok and I only misunderstood the messages.

    Thnak you for any hints.

    Best

    Hans

    An additional question:

Must the database of keepassxc reside in a special folder (or path)?

I have put it just into a folder in my ~home folder.

You have to go to keepassx-browser prefs and connect to your database. In
your database you have then to accept the connection. Did you do this ?

    Hi Michel,

there are no more settings than "add store", and the hint, adding ones store will overwrite the default store path. Is it that what you mean?

And can you tell me, what is the defaault path? Maybe it is a good idea, to move my database to it.

If add store is the setting you meant, the fields are signed with "name" and "path" and two other fields with (I believe) some hashcode. How is it done correctly? Set name as any name I want? Path is path to the database? And the hashcode?

    Thanks for any answer.

Name is what you need to identify your database. Path is path to the
database. Don't know what is this hashcode. Perhaps read the docs in /usr/share/doc/webext-keepassxc-browser
    or on
    https://keepassxc.org/docs/

    Hi Michel,

this worked. It was just to tell the path, where my *.kdbx resides, name it
    and save.

Really, I searched through the web, but all docs I found were for Ubuntu (with theire FLATPAK-issue or about Windows).

In debian and the keepassxc site I found no satisfying description.

Due to your fast help, it is working now.

Thanks again and have a nice week!

    Best regards

    Hans
