    You don't need this to maintain packages in Debian (and you won't be able
    to upload them directly anyway if you haven't contributed to Debian

    When someone write a message saying they are looking for a sponsor, does
    are person who already maintain the package but would like someone to
    support them in the uploading of the package ?

    Of is it a message saying "we'd like someone to give us some time to
    maintain this package when update are needed" ?

    Not sure what do you mean but looking for a sponsor only means that
    someone wants to upload a package but doesn't have the rights to do that directly. This also doesn't necessarily mean they "already maintain the package".

    Thanks, this confirm what I misunderstood.
    I was thinking that message about people looking for sponsor we're
    people asking for help to maintain a package and willing to support the
    update of packages. I interpreted this as "I am looking for someone to
    sponsor this package. Sponsoring in the term of helping, giving resources".
    Now I get it !
