• user access to serial ports with hamlib and rigctld on Debian Sid

I'm writing this just for the record, because when Trixie becomes Stable
many unsuspecting users will certainly bump their noses into this.

Until Bookworm it was sufficient to include $USER into the group dialout
to be able to grant access to the serial ports (ttyUSBn, ttyACMn etall)

With Sid (Trixie) serial ports now belong to the group plugdev.

Have a look for available groups here:
    compgen -g

    sudo usermod -a -G plugdev $USER
and hamlib and programs like JTDX or whatever should do again.

I read somewhere that on Archive Linux the user needs to be part of the
group uucp - that is hearsay - I can't test this.

What stumped me for some time was that neither the terminal program
minicom nor flrig had any problem whatsoever accessing the serial ports
while hamlib and rigctld refused to connect to serial ports.

Hope this helps to avoid some hair pulling in the future
