  • Many packages will install apache2

    Hi,

    I just keep on removing apache2 on my system, and find it bad that some
    updates will reinstall it.
    It seems to be coming from dependencies on "apache2 | httpd-cgi"
    which favors the former (I have some httpd-cgi installed, just not apache2).
    Is it okay to open bugs asking to use instead "httpd-cgi | apache2" ? Which severity would be correct ? Unless there is a general reason not to do this
    ?

    Hello,

    If apt finds that a dependency requires (apache2 OR httpd-cgi) and
    something providing httpd-cgi is already installed it will not (should
    not) remove the providing package and install httpd-cgi. So you will
    need to look in detail why apache2 is being installed on your system.

    Using "apache2 | httpd-cgi" as dependency allows us (Debian) to declare
    apache2 to be the default choice.
