• Bug#1109960: statsmodels: fails with import with scipy 1.16

From Drew Parsons@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 27 11:10:01 2025
    Source: statsmodels
    Version: 0.14.4+dfsg-1
    Severity: normal
    Control: tags -1 fixed-upstream

statsmodels fails completely to import with scipy 1.16 (from
    experimental).
    e.g.

    81s /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/statsmodels/distributions/discrete.py:5: in <module>
    81s from scipy._lib._util import _lazywhere
81s E ImportError: cannot import name '_lazywhere' from 'scipy._lib._util' (/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/scipy/_lib/_util.py)

    The problem is fixed upstream,
    available in upstream release 0.14.5.

This bug will become RC serious later, once scipy 1.16 is uploaded to
    unstable.

This version is in Salsa, though I haven't tested it with scipy 1.16.

Do you want it in experimental now, or should it wait until the release
    and go to unstable?

No great rush on it, it's fine to wait until trixie is released.
