    Hello,

This is the bug to properly request the restoration of the historic News
items that were removed about 6 months ago in commits e92471ba and
be8c189a, until the content is hosted permanently elsewhere and
redirects are put in place to preserve the established URIs.

    See also discussion at <https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/webwml/-/commit/e92471ba4917f0ec62d22e04229928e5531698f4>,

    Restorative MR is here: <https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/webwml/-/merge_requests/1044>

As I've wrote elsewhere, I am committed to working on a solution that
satisfies the debian-www's team to simplify the present-day website,
*and* preserve the old content and their established URIs, but I urge
you to restore them in the meantime.

    Thank you!

Following Thomas's advice/roadmap[1], I've created a preliminary / proof-of-concept website to house the deleted News (and potentially
other material in future). This is not -- yet -- a permanent, production service. I am in active conversations with DSA about proper hosting and
the httpd redirect side of things.

    https://chronicles.debian.net/

    Example archived news page

    https://chronicles.debian.net/www/News/1997/19971211

Note that this is generated using the main site's sources and build
tooling, so is dressed in the main site's theme, header and footer. This
is somewhat confusing and will be improved in time.

Since discussion on this issue was spread across several mailing lists I
am going to stick to updating the bug only to avoid sharding any
    discussion further.

    Best wishes
