• Bug#1109286: libreoffice-kf6: Plasma/kf6 integration broken

From Rainer Dorsch@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 14 20:10:01 2025
    Package: libreoffice-kf6
    Version: 4:25.2.3-2
    Severity: normal

    Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

Many thanks for the excellent libreoffice maintainance in Debian. I
did not try the versions from experimental, since I thought this issue
should be fixed in trixie and the version in experimental is likely not moving to trixie.

    * What led up to the situation?

    Probably an upgrade in testing.

    * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
    ineffective)?

    Just started libreoffice

    * What was the outcome of this action?

Standard menus and file picker, not the KF6 versions.

    * What outcome did you expect instead?

    Proper plasma/kf6 integration.

    I also tried running

    SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kf6 libreoffice

Also it would be good to update https://wiki.debian.org/LibreOffice for trixie.

    Indeed.

    * What led up to the situation?

    Probably an upgrade in testing.

Probably? Do you have the logs?

    That said ...

    * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
    ineffective)?

    Just started libreoffice

    Proper plasma/kf6 integration.

    I also tried running

    SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kf6 libreoffice

After I upgraded a testing test VM (and have a clean  testing there) I see a definite difference in SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen vs. =kf6 (normal desktop is gnome, but can restest with KDE running), so I can't reproduce this:

    gen:

    kf6:

Also it would be good to update https://wiki.debian.org/LibreOffice for trixie.

It's a wiki, you can do ;-) Otherwise I might look into it the next days here at Debconf :-)

    Rene

    Hi Rene,

    thanks for the quick reply.

It seems it was a side effect of

    https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1108038

    on my system.

I am not sure where I collected all nvidia stuff (I don't have any nvidia HW), but I removed it (and added the missing symlink before). Now libreoffice works well again.

I noticed it, because okular did not start anymore and showed on the cmdline libEGL.so.1 does not exist. As far as I remember, libreoffice did not give any indication of an issue.

Given that the issue affects more apps, I think you could just close the bug report.

    Thanks again
    Rainer

    indication of an issue.

To make this more clear; for whoever also ran into this...

Well, libreoffice dynamically opens libvclplug_* depending on the
    desktop.

That one here (_kf6) is linked against the KF6 libs which are linked against whatever else they need. So if those KF6 libs miss some stuff
(libEGL.so.1) that open might fail and thus you don't get the stuff.

And you can't link against the plugin, that would defeat the point of a
    plugin to require it :-)

Not a libreoffice bug, maybe a shortcoming, but... Libreoffice has no
way to know what the KF6 libs require and whether they are there. It
just relies on the stuff it needs.

Given that the issue affects more apps, I think you could just close the bug report.

    Yup, did already.
