Kmix starts with an "X" over the systray icon and no awareness of the sound system. I.e. when I double click the systray icon I get only an empty window (no sliders) and an empty pull-down.
Artsd seems to be working fine, since I can get sound out of a number of arts-only apps, and the test sound in kcontrol (as well as the kde app
sounds) work. However, I am only able to control the volume through the
console alsamixer app.
Kmix worked fine before my recent upgrade to unstable (and kde 3.3).
