    Thanks for your bugreport.

In 1.61 the file open dialogue uses the Dialogue provided by
GNOME 2.6. Good. Strangely, it shows hidden files in the listing,
not only with the default for 'all files' (*.*), but also, when
I change this to '*', which, according to common usage in shells,
should mean 'all files excluding hidden files', right?

Would be nice, if this could be changed.

You can right-click on the dialog and deselect "show hidden
files". But it will not save this option :/

I'll add a upstream bug if you think the right-click approach is not
    sufficent.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Kind regards

    Andreas

Well, actually I did find the more or less "hidden" right-click approach
in the meanwhile. Rather accidently, though.

Though I like right-click menues, I think in this case they are not the
right approach -- who will even guess it is there. I think the fact that
this is the only option (i.e. unhiding/hiding hidden files) shows the
flaw here already. This option should clearly be provided as an obvious
visible checkbox AND the state should be saved!

(By the way: there are more problems with this dialogue: why does
pressing keys in a sequence not work as name completion and select the respective files? (And the Ctrl-L function is again something "hidden"
you have to stumble upon accidently ... but I digress.)

Thanks for the response. And yes, it would be good to have this changed, especially for not-so-experienced users.

    Kind regards

    Andreas
