This happens on i386 architecture with up to date unstable.
Upgrade to version 5:6.0.5.2-1 does not fix this problem. Here is a simple (only three straight lines) fig file called new.fig
and the eps file exported from xfig called new.eps. The command
convert new.eps new.ppm
produced the garbled file new.ppm. I include the gzip file new.ppm.gz below.

Looks like sending the new.ppm.gz was not a very bright idea. The
new.fig and new.eps files should be enough for a test, however. If
anyone wants the new.ppm.gz file that is garbled, I'd be happy to
email it to them.

Downgrading to libmagick6, imagemagick, and perlmagick version
5:6.0.3.1-3 solves the problem. The new.ppm file is then OK.
