    Odd, I don't recall me tampering with this file, but I see an
    identical .dpkg-old made:
    # ls -l /etc/default/hotplug*
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 350 2004-07-19 09:51 /etc/default/hotplug
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 350 2004-05-05 07:29 /etc/default/hotplug.dpkg-old
    # ls -lc /etc/default/hotplug*
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 350 2004-07-19 09:51 /etc/default/hotplug
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 350 2004-07-19 09:51 /etc/default/hotplug.dpkg-old
    # sum /etc/default/hotplug*
    24962 1 /etc/default/hotplug
    24962 1 /etc/default/hotplug.dpkg-old
