Package: dclock
Version: 2.1.2-5.1
Severity: normal
I have sox-12.17.4-9 installed (to remedy the previous bug reported on
this topic) yet I don't have audio abilities on this Ultra-5. Dclock
doesn't seem to check for proper audio abilities and so I end-up with
the following continuous error messages,
playing /usr/share/sounds/bell.wav
sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': Permission denied
playing /usr/share/sounds/bell.wav
sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': Permission denied
The solution at the moment is for me to disable the "bell" via '-nobell'.
I'm unsure as to why Dclock can't simply check first if the sound is enabled (ie. no error returns) else to simply use the terminal beep or similar.
In passing, the error noted above would have been fine given it wasn't under
an infinite loop and given one could opt to simply get a beep somehow.
Let me know if you need further info.
