Sudo has an unexpected dependence on the network.
I ran sudo when my network connection was down
(in fact, I ran it to find out what was wrong...)
and it delays for a minute or so, until
gethostbyname() times out.
Ideally, there would be a flag to avoid this,
or better yet, make it independent of the network.
Here's the error message:
