    There is a patch here: http://no-name-yet.com/patches/grub-nonalternateoptions.patch

    Currently update grub allows you to have two types of kernel options:
    1. Common (shared among all menu items)
    2. Alternate (only shared among the non-default option)

    The patch adds the ability to have options specific to the default
    kernel only.
