• Bug#261815: Please reopen this bug

    From Jordi Salvat i Alabart@1:229/2 to All on Mon Aug 16 11:10:09 2004

    I have this same problem.

    I tried each of the 3 solutions in
    http://www.jwsdot.com/debian/faq.html#q9 in turn and I still get the
    same behaviour: thunderbird downloads a copy of the page, places it in
    /tmp, then launches firefox to view the downloaded file.

    This is a bug: clicking on a link should access the referenced resource,
    not a copy of it.

    And even if you don't see it as a bug in terms of standards compliance,
    it is such a serious usability blunder that it should still be changed.

    I completely agree with you. But I think that you did something wrong or something else is wierd on your machine. What version are you running?
    What desktop environment? Maybe you have already manually registered mozilla-firefox for .html files at some point. I think that would
    overwrite the settings mentioned in my faq. Please take a look at that. Otherwise, try with a new profile.

    Let me know if something worked!

    Sorry, my mistake: /etc/mozilla-thunderbird/global-config.js contained:

    // use this if you have no access to gnome configuration
    // as described on http://www.jwsdot.com/debian/faq.html#q9

    // pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http","mozilla-firebird");
    // pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https","mozilla-firebird");

    In trying to put in place your 3rd solution, I just uncommented these
    two lines, which was obviously wrong, since it's now a fox (genus
    Vulpes, family Canidae, class Mammalia) and no longer a bird (class Aves).

    Changing that resolved my issue.

    This file is part of the mozilla-thunderbird package. I'd suggest to
    correct it.

    There must be something funny on my Gnome configuration, since
    configuring at that level didn't help for my current user, but helped on
    a new user (operating-system level user, not just a new profile). Though
    I don't care right now.
