It'd be useful to be able to tune CD-ROM drive parameters in debian-installer; the poor thing is very slow at reading packages off
the CD, and I've had a suggestion that hdparming the CD-ROM drive would improve it quite a bit. Here's a patch:
When does this have to be done by? I am trying to resolve some
lingering breakage that happens with udev and also with needing to load modules before hdparm'ing a drive, but I will upload this only and go
back to the other if this is needed soon.
At the moment, I'm just doing this in a Debian derivative distribution,
so I've already made the changes there. I suspect this is too late for debian-installer for sarge, and I hadn't been planning to rush the
changes through there and risk breaking things, although if an hdparm
upload happened in the next week or so it might be possible.
Well, I'm fairly sure it's low risk, but I agree about changing debian-installer at this late a date. I have temporarily reverted my
other work and applied your patch, and could upload any time if you
think it's worth it. I will, OTOH, hold off if you think that
uploading will be disruptive.
I feel like it's more important to finalize debian-installer than to see
a particular package make it in, so I defer to your judgement - you are
more active in that arena tha I am.
