Read the installation doc and FAQ. In the FAQ:

Question 10: Will there be support for Linux 2.6 kernels?
    Answer: Boot with "linux26".

When I try this, I'm told it can't find any "linux26" kernel.

I get a feeling this is a Frequently Asked Question. Is there a dedicated mailing list for the new installer?
