    If you don't want to add the -dev packages in question to the build dependencies and the dependencies of the lesstif{,2}-dev packages, you
    should add Build-Conflicts for them.

    In fact it was not a spurious -dev package but a missing one. I re-
    enabled the Xrender extension (which requires libxft-dev), which was
    disabled because there was no shared libXrender (#227502).
