• Bug#265839: adjtimex: clock drift estimation wrong

From Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe@1:229/2 to All on Sun Aug 15 12:00:20 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: adjtimex
    Version: 1.18-1
    Severity: important

    Hello,

since adjtimex 1.18-1 the clock drift estimation goes somehow wrong.

    I had 1.16-1 before, which guessed TICK=10000 and FREQ=+-something-big
on all my machines, which seemed to be good.

adjtimex 1.18-1 guesses things like TICK=9880 or TICK=9967 or TICK=10880
and FREQ=+-something-big, which leads to heavy clock drifts (more than
30 minutes) within a quite short time (less than a day) on all my
    machines.
Drifts that not even ntpd is able to compensate.

Perhaps, this is something to forward upstream.

PS: kernel is 2.4.26 on all machines, perhaps this has something to
do with the changed HZ things in 2.6, dunno.

Thanks for your work & regards,
    Mario
