• Bug#265717: Please rebuild with versioned libiodbc2 dependency

From Christian Hammers@1:229/2 to All on Sat Aug 14 17:40:10 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: qt-x11-free
    Version: unavailable; reported 2004-08-14
    Severity: important

    Hello

My libiodbc2 had no version in its shlibs file. That could be a problem
as it is still the same major soname version as in woody but I cannot
guarantee that packages build against the current libiodbc2 will run
with the woody one as new functions may have been added.

So please rebuild with libiodbc2_3.51.2-4 which has a version in the
    .shlibs.

    thanks,

    -christian-

WHAT THE HELL? As long as only new functions have been added and the old ones have not changed (or were changed but kept compability), this is by no means
a problem. However, if todays libiodbc is incompatible with Woodys version, the soname should have changed and the package name should reflect that. It
is up to you as maintainer to decide that.

Is todays libiodbc still binary compatible with the one in Woody?
