• Bug#265712: switch X desktop make xvncviewer crash

    From Maurizio - Tannoiser@1:229/2 to All on Sat Aug 14 17:10:08 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: xvncviewer
    Version: 3.3.7-3
    Severity: important

    Hi.
When i cycle to virtual desktop, xvncviewwer crash, with this error:

    CleanupXErrorHandler called
    ShmCleanup called
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 42 (X_SetInputFocus)
Serial number of failed request: 386
Current serial number in output stream: 386

I'm not sure if this is xvncviewer related, or X related, but is
annoying, especially if you use various virtual desktop.

I have tried to reproduce it here, but failed. I need more information in
order to be able to fix this bug.

You can also expect a version of VNC4 packackage now. It is a separate package and is uploaded, but has not been approved by the ftp-masters.

Hi Ola, thanks for your answer.

I'll try to give you more info that i can.

I use fluxbox [1], and can reproduce this in this case:

    - launch xvncviewer from xterm, say xvncviewer somemachine::5901
    - switch virtual desktop, with alt-f2
    - switch back to alt-f1 desktop where there's the xterm and the window
    of xvncviewer

    Now:

if window has no focus, something goes ok.
if window has focus, but tap on the bar (the wm one, maybe because i
dragged it somewhere) also goes ok.
if i click inside the window (in the xvncviewer application) leave focus
there, then app exit with the error that i posted (always the same).

I can't know, but seems something related the X_SetInputFocus Xserver
call goes wrong. I'm not a programmer, so i could say wrong, but IMHO,
seems that something handle this function, maybe in a xlibs, or similar, changed, affecting this specific issue.

Al my sid, is uptodate, no unofficial package involved, for what i say.

Try to say what else info i can give you, i'll happy to do.

    Meanwhile, thanks again

    Regards.

Hmm ok. I have tried to reproduce this but I can not even switch virtual desktop (more than with Ctrl-Alt-Fx).

    Ok.

You could try to revert the fix you can find in but #214208. You just have to change
a few lines and no recompilation needed.

Hope it can help us determine what the cause of the bug is.

I tried your suggest, with no result. Same situation.

Meanwhile, i googled around, find this "vnc revisited", where, something
sound familiar: says that with kde (aka with some windows manager), in vncviewer windows mode, there's some problem with virtual desktop.

They describe this like "normal" (??).

    http://www.penlug.org/pipermail/penlug-members/2004-July/000334.html

The error in exit, is exactly the same for me (except the serial number,
    of course).

I don't know, maybe upstream could know more on this issue. For what i
can remember, precedent version didn't have this behaviour, i work in
the same mode, cycling in 4 desktop, where i group my apps, and i think
i remeber this if was happens before.

    Hope this help.

    Regards.
