• Bug#265681: Installation error when locale uses UTF-8 encoding

From Konstantinos Margaritis@1:229/2 to All on Sat Aug 14 14:30:11 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: inorwegian
    Version: 2.0-17
    Severity: important

    Hi,
While testing installation of multiple ispell dictionaries, I tried to
    install inorwegian as well.
This is the error during installation:

    Unpacking inorwegian (from .../inorwegian_2.0-17_i386.deb) ...
    dpkg: error processing
    /var/cache/apt/archives/inorwegian_2.0-17_i386.deb (--unpack):
unable to stat `./usr/lib/ispell/bokm.aff' (which I was about to
    install): Invalid argument

This is because the filename bokm.aff (I suppose it's bokmal?) uses an ISO-8859-1 character which does not map to UTF-8. Using non-ASCII
characters for filenames in a package assumes that the user uses a specific locale/encoding combination, which may not always be the case. I suggest
this filename is changed to a simpler form.

    Regards

    Konstantinos
