    Package: tetex-bin
    Version: 2.0.2-18
    Followup-For: Bug #265247

First dpkg report fmtutil.cnf not found, after cp /var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmfutil.cnf and updmap.cfg to
/usr/share/tetex-bin/, it can be installed. But latex and pdflatex will complain latex.fmt and pdflatex.fmt not found and cp
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/*.fmt and *.efmt to /usr/share/texmf/web2c will ok

    Hi,

You reported #264953. Is it that the one you wanted to f'up to?

First dpkg report fmtutil.cnf not found, after cp /var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmfutil.cnf and updmap.cfg to
/usr/share/tetex-bin/, it can be installed. But latex and pdflatex
will complain latex.fmt and pdflatex.fmt not found and cp /var/lib/texmf/web2c/*.fmt and *.efmt to /usr/share/texmf/web2c
    will ok

What does "grep VARTEXMF /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf" tell you? As of
tetex_2.0.2-17 /usr/share/texmf/web2c is not any more a symlink to /var/lib/texmf/web2c/ but an own subdir. So /var/lib/texmf/web2c/
must be in the TEXMF path to get searched. If you let tetex-bin
update your /etc/texmf/texmf.d/05TeXMF.cnf and generate texmf.cnf in
    /etc/texmf that should work.

Hmm. I see here a problem: If the user says no to installing the new
version from the package and has no VARTEXMF in the local (edited)
one, neither fmfutil.cnf, nor updmap.cfg nor any format is found. We
should at least document that anywhere.

We really need to know that.

With Debian, you're allowed to shoot yourself in the foot if you
want. Yes, documenting it is necessary.

Very sorry for my annoying mail before, I just found the error message
due to a unoffice tex deb package for chinese when I remove the
package the tetex-bin is ok. However it's need not to remove the
package when I change from tetex-bin 2.17 package to sarge tetex-bin
package. The /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf have VARTEXMF in the TeX search
    paths now. Thanks a lot!

So this bug is resolved, right? Then it would be very kind of you if you
would close it, by sending mail to [email protected]
