• Bug#265462: Jikes should generate classes that can be used by JDK 1.3 b

From Stefan Gybas@1:229/2 to All on Fri Aug 13 12:20:08 2004
    From: [email protected]

This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156)
    Package: jikes
    Version: 1:1.21.1-2
    Severity: important

The default target for generated class files is JDK 1.4 (class version
48.0) which makes these classes unusable by JDK 1.3. A lot of the Java
packages in main are built using Jikes so if they are now rebuilt with
the latest version, the result will be different.

This has affected tomcat4 because some of its dependencies were rebuilt
with the new Jikes version, see e.g. #263412 and #265253. Please change
Jikes to create classes suitable for JDK 1.3 by default when no JDK 1.4 features (i.e. assertions) are used.
