• Bug#265379: ethereal: FTBFS (automake1.4 and automake1.6 installed)

From Andrew Moise@1:229/2 to All on Fri Aug 13 00:30:10 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: ethereal
    Version: 0.10.5-4
    Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

I get a build failure building ethereal, like so:

    # .a is no longer built; why was is used ?
    #cp `pwd`/wiretap/libwiretap.a `pwd`/debian/tmp/usr/lib/
    rm -rf `pwd`/debian/tmp/usr/man
    dh_installman
    dh_movefiles
dh_movefiles: debian/tmp//usr/lib/ethereal/libethereal.so.0 not found (supposed to put it in ethereal-common)
dh_movefiles: debian/tmp//usr/lib/ethereal/libethereal.so.0.0.1 not found (supposed to put it in ethereal-common)
dh_movefiles: debian/tmp//usr/lib/ethereal/libethereal.so not found (supposed to put it in ethereal-dev)
    make: *** [binary-arch] Error 1
    [moise@pogo ~/src/ethereal-0.10.5]$

This is with automake1.4 and automake1.6 both installed. With only automake1.4 installed, the build proceeds normally.

    [moise@pogo /tmp/ethereal-0.10.5]$ dpkg -l 'automake*' Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold

Could you send the whole build log ?

    Thanks,

    Sure. It's available at http://qix.demiurgestudios.com/~moise/ethereal-build-log (it's a little
    big to send via email).
