• Bug#265374: cdrecord: DMA too slow for Plexwriter 48x24x48

    From Sylvain LE GALL@1:229/2 to All on Fri Aug 13 00:10:09 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: cdrecord
    Version: 4:2.0+a34-1
    Severity: normal

    Well, in fact all is already said in this message : http://lists.debian.org/cdwrite/2004/08/msg00003.html

    But it would be nice to have cdrecord working withour needing to use "driveropts=burnfree". I don't think my hardware is cheap ( nor the
    motherboard nor the CD writer ) and i have enough DD bandwidth and my
    computer is not busy when writing the CD...

    I think this bugs is fixed in the coming version of cdrecord.

    Kind regard
    Sylvain Le Gall

    Can you please test? I'd rather not add another package to the sarge pre-release frenzy without a good reason.

    Test packages of a36 for i386 for sarge/sid are on

    Ok, i have download and test :
    - blank a CDRW with version older than a34 ( a33 i think ) -> OK
    - blank a CDRW with version a34 -> DMA too slow
    - blank a CDRW with version a36 -> OK
    - write a CDRW with version a36 -> OK

    So the new version seems to work for my CD burner. I don't know if it is
    the case for everyone, but at least here, there is no problem anymore.

    By the way, i specify speed=16 but cdrecord tell me, that he will write
    at 24, is this normal ?

    Kind regard, thanks for the package

    Depends on writer and disk. The writer might not implement 16x or the
    disk might require a minimum-speed of 24. (iirc the very fast CD-RW
    disks require this.)

    I do not know whether a36 will make sarge, there are some new license
    isues, but I hope we will get over them.
