Version: 2.1.4-4
It took me a couple hours yesterday to figure out that I needed to install sasl2-bin and libsasl2-modules in order for postfix to authenticate as an
SMTP client with my ISP's mail server.
I was getting this error in my /var/log/mail.log:
Aug 11 17:01:28 shuttle postfix/smtp[31950]: A1D2D1AE12: to=<
[email protected]>, relay=smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com[66.163.171.137], delay=1, status=deferred (Authentication failed: cannot SASL authenticate
to server smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com[66.163.171.137]: no mechanism available)
If postfix-tls suggested or recommended these packages, I would have figured things out much sooner. At least put some documentation - a README.Debian
or something that talks about needing the packages for any authentication
to work. Postfix-tls is pretty useless without them.
Thanks,
Josh
