I have a setup for many machines where on top of the local debconf for
each machine there is a read-only global debconf db mounted over NFS.
From time to time I want to copy the new debconf questions added to the
local db over to the global db. Right now I have to go edit the /etc/debconf.conf file to change the remotedb to read-write, then run debconf-copydb, then go back to the editor to change it back to read-only.
What would be nicer is to have a switch in debconf-copydb that overrides
the read-only setting for the destination database. Something like this:
$ debconf-copydb configdb remotedb
debconf-copydb: remotedb database is read-only. Copy aborted. (Use -w to override.)
$ debconf-copydb -w configdb remotedb
Copy done...
If you don't like the idea, at least the warning that nothing is being
done before the destination database is read-only would be very nice. It
took me a while to figure out that this was the problem the first time around...
Thanks,
Christian
