From Tom Larrard@1:229/2 to All on Thu Aug 12 18:10:14 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: postgresql-contrib
    Version: 7.4.3-3
    Severity: normal

    The documentation has the file

    postgresql-contrib: /usr/share/doc/postgresql-contrib/README.ora2pg.gz

The info for the package mentions a program called oracle, but this is not in the package contents.

I see there is no Makefile in the upstream source for that directory, so
it didn't get included. Fortunately, no one seems to have needed it.
Your next comment suggests that you don't either :-)

Well, no. It wouldn't be! Oracle is a highly expensive proprietary
system. ora2pg.pl is a conversion script, which is of no use at all to
anybody who doesn't already have an Oracle database.

    Oliver

    dpkg -I postgresql-contrib_7.4.3-3_i386.deb
    ....
oracle - Conversion utility for Oracle database schemas
    ....

so yes I do need ora2pg as well as *this* oracle found in the package info.

I already have the other oracle ;-) getting rid of it is the point of this exercise!

    Tom

Oh, I see what you mean. That "oracle" is the name of the contrib
module, but the programs it is supposed to supply are ora2pg.pl and
    Ora2Pg.pm.

You can get those out of the source package, or from the CVS web
interface at www.postgresql.org; or wait till I put up the next release,
    which should be soon.
