Although read-edid can detect the monitor correctly, the read-edid data was not used in the X configuration that happened in the second part of installation
Sounds like you should file a bug on xfree86, or add enough details to
this report that it can be reassigned there. read-edid is installed, so
I don't know why the X config would not use it.
I just found out that this is bug 229850, filed 27 january 2004. The
bug contains a trivial patch to resolve the issue, but it has not yet
been applied. Since *everyone* installing the X window system on Debian
Sarge will encounter this bug, I hope there's still time to fix this.
Maybe a message about this issue should be present on http://www.nl.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/errata . Even though
it's not really a problem with the installer, it mostly occurs if you
are installing debian (not upgrading).
Sigh, if this doesn't get fixed, I guess so.
I don't understand what's the holdup given the good analysis of the
problem and even two patches.
