• Bug#255793: capplets: gnome-settings-daemon and the mixer

From Daniel Jacobowitz@1:229/2 to All on Thu Aug 12 17:30:11 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: capplets
    Version: 1:2.6.1-10
    Followup-For: Bug #255793

g-s-d should be able to open the mixer when it needs it instead of keeping
it open all the time. This bug means I have to SIGSTOP gnome-session and
kill gnome-settings-daemon every time I want to reload my sound driver...

g-s-d also loads all the Alsa modules every time it starts, which is really annoying since I don't use alsa.

If you don't use alsa, try changing your gstreamer audio configuration to another sound sink.

    It's already set to OSS.

[Not to mention that having to configure that in GNOME would be a real nuisance...]

ok. I've no more oss on my boxes so I can't test but you may try
to remove gst-alsa and watch the output of lsof.
