From Martin Kos@1:229/2 to All on Thu Aug 12 14:00:15 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: mldonkey-server
    Version: 2.5.27-1
    Severity: important

after upgrading the mldonkey-server package to 2.5.27-1 the mlnet daemon wasn't restarted and so the upgrade is useless?

    You are kidding ?

after upgrading the mldonkey-server package to 2.5.27-1 the mlnet daemon wasn't
restarted and so the upgrade is useless?

Many protocol implemented by mldonkey is based on credits and uptime of
the program. This means that if you disconnect you will loose your place
in the download queue of every servers you have contacted.

The restart will happen anyway, without needing to restart at hand :
    - either on reboot / soft reboot of your computer
    - after the uptime define by you in the debconf screen

So, if i don't restart the server it is only to respect the user right
to choose when he will loose his download credits !

( think about it, if i restart on upgrade there will people that will
bugreport because i DO restart and they LOOSE their credits... )

But the upgrade is not useless, since after a certain period of time the
good version of mldonkey will be restarted...

This is just a question of time.

    Kind regard

ps : do you really think it is an "important" issue, i think it is more
    a "wishlist"...

    sometimes ;-)

    i know!

The restart will happen anyway, without needing to restart at hand :
    - either on reboot / soft reboot of your computer
    on a 24x7 machine?

    - after the uptime define by you in the debconf screen
right, have missed that point :-(

So, if i don't restart the server it is only to respect the
user right to choose when he will loose his download credits !

yeah i see the problem... but otherwise if i upgrade a package i
expect that it restarts the service immediatly because i have
choosen to upgrade the package as i have had problems with the
    old version.

ps : do you really think it is an "important" issue, i think it

if you like you can change the severity level to "critical" ..or
    "grave" ;-)

easy.. you can close the bugreport as i see the problem and your
    arguments are good.

greets & sorry for the important problem *smile*

Yeah, this is not the good solution

    No problem

I agree that there should be an option to easily switch from upgrade
ASAP and upgrade when timeout. I should ask this in the debconf.

    There is also "serious" ;-)

No, there is really no problem, maybe i was a bit harsh... I think you
bug report is good. I think i will keep it, downgrading it to wishlist.
It will help me to remember to add a debconf screen explaining the
problem and asking if people want to upgrade at every update or not.
However, this screen while have a "low" severity. I want to keep
debconf simple for user who just want to install mldonkey and start downloading. ( there are many people who will use sarge and will just
    install mldonkey one time ).
