    What puzzles me here is, that CUR_LDAT is not set at all. An "unset
    CUR_LDAT" will give me an exit status of non zero if CUR_LDAT is not
    defined at all. This is only the case if the file /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat does not exist at
    all. This file is a soft link, which should point to
    /etc/texmf/language.dat and is contained in the tetex-bin package.
    As you see on your debug output from above the file does not exist.
    Could you please try to find out why not? Did you build the packages
    yourself? Is there a full HD or something similar?

    * tetex-bin/hyphen:
    <snip>
    * tetex-bin/use_debconf: true

    You decided to manage your language.dat using debconf, but didn't
    select any language patterns. I don't think it has something to do
    with the breakage above, but it doesn't make sense.

    Lukas: You're in Cc. Are you sure your setup fails for the same
    reason? Could you please check the debug output as done by the
    original submitter?

    Regards,
    Hilnar

    Sorry for late response: we were fixing other grave bugs.

    Not a problem at all :)

    What puzzles me here is, that CUR_LDAT is not set at all.

    Hmm, I've tried `dpkg --configure tetex-bin`, and you're right, CUR_LDAT
    isn't actually defined/set at any point...

    /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat
    /etc/texmf/language.dat

    The above to files don't exist....

    and is contained in the tetex-bin package.

    Doing a little poking around in tetex-bin_2.0.2-17_i386.deb;

    [nemesis@saturn] ~/tmp$ find . -iname "language.dat" ./usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat

    So it appears that language.dat is in the tetex-bin package.. but not where
    you expected it.

    [nemesis@saturn] ~/tmp$ ls /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/
    fontmath.cfg fonttext.cfg language.dat preload.cfg

    And indeed, it's been put there.

    Did you build the packages yourself?

    Nope, just did a simple apt-get install.

    Is there a full HD or something similar?
    [nemesis@saturn] ~$ df
    Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hdb2 12025592 5703880 5710844 50% /

    Plenty of space free.

    * tetex-bin/use_debconf: true

    You decided to manage your language.dat using debconf, but didn't
    select any language patterns.

    Out of interest, is there a way to select the language patterns manually?
    e.g. `dpkg --configure tetex-lang` or something ?

    Cheers,
    Peter Dey

    No, it is exactly where I expect to find it. Problem: Why is it not

    dpkg-reconfigure tetex-bin or editing language.dat manually.

    Great! And what you see here is probably #263343, which has been
    fixed in latest upload of tetex-base. Comment the line "For use with ngerman.sty (neue Rechtschreibung):" (put a % in front) to get
    tetex-bin installed.

    [nemesis@saturn] ~/tmp$ ls /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/
    fontmath.cfg fonttext.cfg language.dat preload.cfg

    Well, it's there, but it hasn't been copied to
    /etc/texmf/language.dat...

    It is copied in postinst of tetex-bin. Unfortunately at first the
    script failed a long time before this was done.

    Great! And what you see here is probably #263343, which has been
    fixed in latest upload of tetex-base. Comment the line "For use with >ngerman.sty (neue Rechtschreibung):" (put a % in front) to get
    tetex-bin installed.

    Woohoo!! Thanks very much :)

    Strange how no-one else was experiencing the same problem as me though...

    Cheers,
    Peter Dey

    So, we could theoretically close that bug?
    Lukas, you're in Cc. Do you see exactly the same or do you see the
    package just not installing for any other reason? Could you please
    post debug ouput, if the latter is the case?

    Thanks,
    Hilmar

    I've got a response from Lukas privatly. He's probably only seeing
    that tetex-base bug. However he's now on vacation so he can't further
    help us to investigate.
    I'd like you to close that bug now. Would you be so kind to do so by
    sending an E-Mail to [email protected] with a short
    explanation if you agree?

    Thanks,
    Hilmar
