• Bug#265237: /usr/sbin/dovecot: Please favor sasl2-dev over sasl-dev

From Jonas Smedegaard@1:229/2 to All on Thu Aug 12 12:40:09 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: dovecot-common
    Version: 0.99.10.9-1
    Severity: normal
    File: /usr/sbin/dovecot

SASL 1.5 is old. I am no expert, but it seems maintainers/upstreams of openldal, postfix, mutt and sendmail agrees that linking against SASL
    2.x is preferred.

Your package build-depends on sasl-dev | sasl2-dev. Please switch those
around, in order to favor SASL 2.x linking.

    Kind regards,

    - jonas

Your fellow package maintainer of uw-imapd (I still favor dovecot!)

...or maybe investigate if Timo meant SASL generally (I saw his note,
and it was in response to a specific compile against SASL 2.x).

ok fine, reopen it as severity wishlist. I'm not going to try it out
until after sarge. I can't risk such a change at this time.

Timo, is it safe to link dovecot against sasl2 on Debian?

I guess it's safe. I was thinking about removing all libsasl code from
next version though. I haven't heard it working with anyone and I don't remember if it ever worked with me either.
