If you are going to upgrade the severity to serious then,
given the maintainer's response, I think you should go ahead
and submit the matter to the technical committee. Otherwise
the bug is just going to sit here and the release managers
will have to make a last-minute arbitrary decision either
to ignore the bug or to remove the package from sarge.
