    That says:

    in case anyone else needs it.

    The 'compat' option no longer works, you need

    passwd: files nis
    group: files nis
    shadow: files nis

    In your nsswitch.conf instead.

    Somebody removed "compat" mode from glibc? Over a year ago ?
