If GNOME2 is installed, but gnome-control-center isn't then (which is
quite legal regarding satisfying dependencies), and /etc/init.d/gdm is
start'ed and then an attempt as anybody to login is made, then the following error message appears:
The was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The last error message was:
Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon'
GNOME will still try to start the Settings Daemon next time you log in.
I realise that saying 'if GNOME2 is installed' is pretty meaningless,
but I am no expert in GNOME architecture/packaking and cannot be more
specific. However, what I can do is include a complete list of packages installed on the system; which is not so big as this is a very freshly installed system. I've had to set COLUMNS=150 in order than package
names and versions are not chopped, so excuse the very long lines.
